Royal visit to Hesla Farm

The royal visit to Hesla Gård in Gol was a highlight for both the hosts and the local community. When the Crown Prince Couple visited Hallingdal, dinner was held at the historic farm, a place with a long history, genuine hospitality and an atmosphere that suits both royals and ordinary guests.

A farm with a royal atmosphere

Hosts Ligia and Knut Hesla welcomed the Crown Prince couple to the yard surrounded by a flowering garden, old barns and chickens roaming freely. Hesla Gård is located just a few hundred meters from the center of Gol and is considered one of the oldest farms in the village – dating back to 1537.

The farm consists of several unique buildings from different eras. Here you can stay in an old Hallingstugu, in a barn that is almost 400 years old, or in a farmhouse with original details and modern comfort. In total, Hesla Gård has 25 beds divided into 11 accommodation units, all with kitchens and bathrooms.

– When we were asked about hosting the Crown Prince Couple's dinner, the answer was of course yes. It is a dream and an honor, says Ligia Hesla.

Royal visit to Hesla Gård – from barn to banquet hall

In connection with the royal visit, the barn was transformed into an elegant dining room – decorated with crystal chandeliers and crockery to suit the occasion. The barn now serves as a breakfast room for overnight guests, while the barn is used for parties, weddings and conferences.

In the farm shop you will find goods from local and national producers, everything from handmade ceramics to local food. This makes a visit to Hesla Gård an experience for both the senses and the stomach.

Real Norwegian farm experience

A royal visit to Hesla Gård is not just about one special evening. It shows how much Norwegian rural culture and hospitality mean. Here, guests from home and abroad can experience authentic Norwegian culture, stay in historic surroundings and feel the peace and quiet.

The farm focuses on ecotourism, short-distance experiences and reuse. The interior has been carefully put together to preserve the soul of the buildings, and many old objects have been given new life. In the garden you can enjoy the silence, greet the chickens and put your mobile phone to rest.

Hesla Gård is perfectly located for those who want to experience Hallingdal. It is a short walk to restaurants and shops in the center of Gol, and just a short drive to popular winter destinations such as Hemsedal and Geilo.

In the summer, Golsfjellet offers pastoral landscapes, hiking trails, cycling, fishing and nature experiences for the whole family. One of the farm's newest additions is a building by the Tisleifjord, which now houses a summer café with bicycle, kayak, boat and fishing equipment rental - perfect for those who want to combine peace, activity and nature.
